For many people, flying is a basic transport to get somewhere. For work or family. Therefore, it’s important to have clear information about the actual status of flights in Argentina. Because the government made a mess of their communication about the restart of flights in Argentina.

What does the law say?
At this moment there is a capacity restriction in place. Only 2000 passengers per day can arrive at the international airport of Buenos Aires. The government controls this by approving each flight individually. Meaning, that every airline needs to send their flight schedule to the governmental airport authorities. Afterward, the authorities will say yes or no to the flight.
On top of that is the number of flights to Europe reduced but to the USA are increased a bit again. All flights to Turkey and Africa are forbidden by the Argentinian government.

What are the flights now to Argentina?
The flight schedules will be published by the airline itself. You need to check with your airline to know if the flight will take place.
Below I give you the latest data that I have about the flights during the 600 passenger restriction.

When will the regular flights resume in Argentina?
That’s was for a long a big question. The Argentinian government is a master in miscommunication or not communicating at all. There are enough quotes of politicians in newspapers but you need to have a legal and officially published announcement.
Probably when the covid numbers are getting lower, the restrictions will be lifted up. But at this moment its uncertain when.

Passenger locator form
Don’t forget to complete the passenger locator form when you will enter or leave Argentina. We explained everything in the article: current COVID-19 measures in Argentina. Everybody that travels from outside Argentina needs to go into 14 days of self-isolation. This rule still is in power.

What is ok for an essential domestic flight?
Only essential travelers can board the plane now. But there is an exception for citizens of neighboring countries Brasil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, and Bolivia. They can travel to the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires. Also for tourism purposes.
Trips to other provinces need to be essential:
- You are a health or government worker
- You work in a service that is considered essential, in a communication medium or you provide teaching or non-teaching staff in an educational institution authorized to resume activities
- You are a commercial, banking, financial services provider, health insurance or credit union, liberal professional (accountant, attorney), psychologist, factory worker, authorized sports or private residence
- You work in infrastructure maintenance, transport of people and goods, telecommunications, public, private or energy works
You accompany minors, the elderly, or the disabled - For emergencies, unforeseen situations, or calamities; to attend medical appointments, perform procedures that cannot be postponed or rescheduled (24 hours)
- To assist family members, the elderly or people with disabilities; for divorced parents who have to transfer their sons or daughters (24 hours)
- For long-term medical treatment
- For the recreational practice of an authorized individual sport, training of an athlete or a national representation of an authorized federation or attending an authorized event

Hi Glenn, I am an Argentinian living in South Africa for many years. I have a SA passport with which I usually enter BsAs. My Argentinian passport has expired and I was planning to renew it last year but then I couldn’t go to Bs As because of Covid. I go once a year to visit my mom, in 2020 she turned 100 years old and I couldn’t go because flights were cancelled. I was flying with TAAG via Brazil, now I have a voucher from them valid until July this year.
My question is, have you got any info if I will be able to travel to see my mom, when, and how ? will I have to quarantine?
I usually only go for 2 weeks. What is your advice ?

Hi Claudia 👋, you will need to have a valid passport to leave a country. You can always enter Argentina, even if your Argentinian passport is expired but I suggest to renewing it at the Argentinian embassy. With an Argentinian passport or DNI you can enter the country without any problem. Cheers

I’m an Argentinian resident and my husband is an American citizen residing in the US. In order to enter Argentina I read that he needs a copy of my DNI. Do you know if it needs to be certified? Do you know if the marriage certificate he needs to produce has to be translated into Spanish?
I’m also worried about this letter of request where he has to state why his visit is necessary. Is seeing his wife after over a year a good enough reason to enter this country? Do you know of any foreigners who have entered Argentina already under this program?

Hi Ari, yes there are already persons that entered Argentina for the reason of not seeing their partner for a year. The marriage certificate needs to be legalized by apostille. The translation is not necessary. A previous comment here on the website said that the border control didn’t even took the time to read the letter of request. They only looked for the certificates. Today is June 26th, 2021 and Argentina government announced a restriction of only 2 flights per day to be allowed to enter and leave Argentina. I am USA citizen visiting family members in Argentina, I am supposed to be flying back to USA on July 4th. Via AA flight 996 via Dallas, do you which flights will be allowed?
Hi Andres, the airline will inform you if your flight will take place. At this moment there is no list of approved flights. Probably there is also a lot of uncertainty at the airlines regarding Argentina’s decision.
As of today 6-28-21 my wife’s 6-30-21 A.A. flight 996 B.A. to DFW was cancelled and there are no flights out of B.A. I’m told by A.A. If we can get get to chilli or any other country they can re flight her from there. What a freaking mess this is. If anyone has done advise or knowledge as to how I can get my wife back home without waiting till freaking August, please share. Thanks

Hi Glenn, Since our last question on 27.9.2020 we could prepare the shipping of our car to Africa. Begin of January we have to deliver it in the B.A. port. Now our question: What do we need on paperwork 1) to drive from Posadas/Misiones to the port of Buenos Aires (Exolgan Terminal), crossing hereby Corrientes, Entre Rios and the B.A. Province, and 2) to fly with AR from Ezeiza out to Garulhos/São Paulo. My daughter who lives in USA has both Argentinian cutizenship and USA, she is travelling next week to BS As and from there needs to take another flight to Salta where all our family live. I understand she needs to sign la Declaracion Jurada 48hrs before she departs From NY, is it aldo required to get a Covid19 testing as well to enter the country? And does she need anything else to get on the second plane to Salta? And how anout the querentine? Can she do it at a family member house? I really appreciate your help!!🙏
Hi Iris, a PCR test isn’t required now. She needs to download the CuidAR app on her phone and apply for the circulation certificate. Afterward, she needs to follow the 14-day quarantine in Salta. Normally the quarantine is in strict self-isolation. I’m not informed how the government of Salta this follows up. Saludos!

Have a friend who is Argentine National returning home to Argentina December 9th originating in Mexico and a layover in Lima, Peru. confusing information is that flights are not coming from Lima on Latam Airlines. and Do Argentine nationals still require 14 day quarantine if returning from Mexico?

Hi Jord, indeed it’s not always clear.
International flights are already allowed in Argentina but there were only available for Argentinians until October 15th because the border was strictly closed for all foreigners. Since October 15th, citizens from Brasil, Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay, and Bolivia are allowed to enter Argentina for essential reasons.
From December 15th, those citizens from neighboring countries are allowed to enter Argentina for touristic reasons. If they follow the protocols applied in Argentina.
So, foreigners from other countries such as the USA or European countries are not allowed to enter Argentina. The page that you send in the link confirms it.

Hi Virginia 👋, I see the chances low that they will reopen the borders for foreigners at that time. At this moment, even Argentinians are not allowed to travel for non-essential purposes inside the country.

Hi Tom, There is a misunderstanding between the two laws. One legislation related to the sale of airline tickets and the application for the specially authorized flights. And the second legislation relates to prohibiting foreigners from entering Argentina.
Now the second legislation has a direct effect on the special flights. Because if you are not admitted to the country as a foreigner, you can actually not take the flight. Technically, you can book a flight and in case of inattention the airline can even let you board, but as soon as you land in Argentina you are faced with a closed border.
Hence, inbound flights are only available to Argentines in possession of a valid passport or national ID.

We,ve eventually managed to book a flight back to South Africa on December 3 ( Rosario – Buenos Aires – and then Turkish Airlines to South Africa).We’ve been trying to obtain a “Certificado para circular” at https://www.argentina.gob.ar/circular/ without success.You need either a DNI or a TAD (whatever that is) or a NUMERO DE PRECARIA. Seeing that we entered the country as tourists we only have our passport numbers.We,ve also send various emails to the helpdesk but nobody is able to help us, they just refer you back to the link above.Are there perhaps other people on this site that have the same problem.Our only other option would be to just forget about the form.
Hi Sonette, indeed… you can’t enter a passport number in the circular app. If you have a flight ticket out of Argentina, then you are able to travel to the international airport. It’s a valid reason to travel from your address to the airport. Saludos

Hi John 👋, airlines are allowed to fly back to Argentina. However, it’s the airline’s decision to resume its route to Buenos Aires. Probably based on demand and profit. On the other hand, many airlines did resume their flights to Buenos Aires. For example, Iberia will fly from December almost daily to Argentina. When the borders of Argentina for foreigners will reopen is unclear. They are reopening now for neighboring countries and I see that the government finally is taking good measures. If a second wave stays away in Argentina, then I see a chance that February will maybe be possible for family reunions. Saludos!

Hi Kel, indeed the situation is disproportionate. But the borders remain for foreigners. I sincerely hope that the government will take this into account in the next announcement.
The special flights – which normally stop shortly and become regular again – are for sale to the public. The airline does not take any responsibility in this if you ultimately cannot enter Argentina because the borders are closed to foreigners.
I would wait a while before booking a flight (at short notice). And wait until the message comes that the borders have been opened again.
You only need the circular application if you want to travel from the city to another province.

Hi Kel, you can’t enter Argentina if you only have a US passport. To cross the border you need to have a passport from one of the neighboring countries. A stop-over is not possible. Cheers

I am booked on a flight on 31/10 purchased a few days ago.
I contacted Ezeiza to ask if the flight arrivals I saw on their website AA, BA, KLM, Lufthansa etc. were ‘special’ or normal commercial flights. This was two days ago. They said all commercial flights banned so had to assume special.
I contacted BA to ask if flights were special or commercial and they said commercial, so the opposite reply.
I specifically asked about my flight on 31/10 and told it is normal commercial flight…
However once there, it does not seem simple to circulate and abide with the law.
You must have Circular App on your phone which is to show you have authorisation, don’t know if you have it or not. But regardless I have tried to download app but cannot as my phone is registered in Europe and it seems the App is only available if phone is registered in Argentina.

Hi Adrian 👋, there is some misunderstanding. It’s true that commercial flights are banned. In place of that, there are “special” flights. However, airlines see them as normal commercial flights as the ticket sale is open to the public. Up to now, there are only special flights to Argentina. Actually, there is no difference to you as a passenger. The flight is just an individual authorized to land in Argentina.
About your arrival in Argentina. If you filled in the Jurada Declaracion (not the Circular app), then you agree that you will go into 14 days of self-isolation. You have to mention the address where you will stay. You don’t need more approvals if you are just staying in Buenos Aires city. However, if you want to take a domestic flight to another province, then yes and you need to motivate why you want to fly to another province.

Hi Sahin, I’m only aware of flights with Aeromexico from Buenos Aires to Mexico city. If there are flights, you can leave Argentina without any problem. The border control will allow you to leave the country. Saludos.
Hello Glenn, it is not completely true that you cannot fly to Europe as an Argentinian. You can, if you can demonstrate a good reason. Tourism is not a good reason, at least not during the pandemic. Germany, for instance, will allow entry to highly qualified people with a work visa if they can credibly show that their presence is essential. The German embassy in Buenos Aires still (or again) issues work visas. There would be no point doing so, if nobody could enter. The decision on letting someone in ultimately rests with the border police at the point of entry. However, it is highly unlikely that they would turn you back after a 13 hour flight if you have a valid visa and a letter stating that your presence is essential. Moreover, not everyone would necessarily enter Germany directly from Argentina. If you have a stopover in Madrid or Amsterdam, then you are dealing with Spanish or Dutch authorities, and they are even less likely to turn you back with a valid German visa. It is hard enough for them to keep up to date with Dutch entry rules, much less will the keep in touch with German entry rules, which even Germans don’t fully understand because many federal states and even individual cities make their own rules. Once you are through the Schengen border in Madrid or Amsterdam, there are no more border controls. You WILL need to fill out a landing questionnaire, which the airline collects and passes on the the health authorities. These can check up on you to make sure you comply with quarantine rules. So, yes, it is a bit inconvenient but not impossible – at least not if you can find a flight. Gabriel
Hi Gabriel, that’s why I always mention that the passenger – in this case, the Argentinian citizen – is responsible to comply with the travel restrictions of the country of destination. Maybe I need to clarify more that the passenger also needs to comply with the first border control in the Schengen zone. The Argentinian border control will let Argentinians pass without any problem but the passenger needs to check the restrictions of the destination. Saludos

However, the government maybe can make an exception. Let’s see how it goes. Maybe behind the scenes, something is moving but nothing is reported by the news. That normally always knows something 🙂

I mean, special flights there have been since the pandemic started so that Argentinians return home, right? So, I thoughts those were for tourists too. Hi Ana-Maria 👋, the airline can sell tickets to everyone. But it’s the responsibility of the passenger to check and follow the entry restrictions of the country of arrival. In this case, Argentina doesn’t allow foreigners (tourists) to enter.
Theoretically, you can book a ticket on one of the special flights but you will get denied access to Argentina as soon you arrive. The airline doesn’t take any responsibility for that.
On October 11th, the government will give an update about the travel restrictions. And then we are hoping that foreigners are welcome back again. However, it doesn’t look very good for international tourism in Argentina. Even national citizens are not allowed to travel nowadays.

I just want to share information regarding my entry to Argentina on 16 October 2020.
I’m an Indonesian diplomat traveling from Jakarta, Indonesia. I flew in using Qatar Airways CGK-DOH-GRU and GRU-EZE by Latam.
As entry for foreigner is still not permitted, I got rejected by Qatar Airways when I checked in in CGK. But because I use a diplomatic passport and visa, and I also showed them all my transfer papers, they finally gave me my boarding pass.
There was “surprisingly” no problem at all during my trip. I thought Latam will also try to reject me at GRU before taking off to EZE, but the only thing they did was to check my PCR results, without caring where I’m from. They also asked me to fill in the Argentinian passenger locator form and that’s it.
I arrived in Buenos Aires with no problem whatsoever on arrival. They only checked the passenger locator form and not concerned where I’m from. I am now doing a 2 week mandatory quarantine without any issues.

The dillema of course, is that there are no domestic flights Cordoba to EZE. Are you aware of any other alternative means of getting to Buenos Airport from Cordoba. I have another opportunity in late October and would hope to catch that flight back to Canada.

I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction for information regarding domestic travel. I understand normal travel between provinces is currently prohibited. My question is whether I will be allowed to depart Buenos Aires on Oct.18th since I will not have not completed the 14-day quarantine. I assumed that since I was sold the tickets by AA it would be ok, but I feel I might need approval from some government office, and perhaps a Covid-19 test prior to departing Buenos Aires. Hi Cristina 👋, that’s indeed a difficult case but Argentina is sometimes flexible if you show some documents to motivate your opinion. (This doesn’t apply for persons that don’t have a DNI/passport because the access will be denied).
I suggest taking a COVID-19 test 72hrs before your arrival in Argentina. And to be sure you can also take a COVID-19 test and a doctor’s certificate declaring that you don’t have any symptoms. This 72hrs before leaving Argentina. With that, you can motivate your reason.
But still, be aware that this is not according to the law to terminate the self-isolation earlier.

Hi Claudia 👋, the only way a foreigner can enter Argentina is by having a DNI (national ID number) = residency. There are exceptions but they don’t apply to your case. (Exceptions are: airline/ship crew members, medical transport, international cargo crew).
Even if you have a house in Argentina but you don’t have a DNI, you will not be allowed to enter the country. They are very strict in that.
The borders of Argentina are closed until October 11th. A couple of days before they will announce if the restriction will be extended or not. Then the new rules will start on October 12th.

Hi Ty 👋, the borders of Argentina are officially closed until October 11th, 2020 for all foreigners. The decree is published. You can find the latest information here. I always link to the official laws published in the state gazette.
Argentina is currently the epic-center of Latin-America. Of all tests taken, more then 50% returns positive. At this moment more cases are detected outside the city of Buenos Aires. For Buenos Aires city the situation is stabilizing. Now more cases are showing up in the North of the country. But, sadly there is a lack of good health infrastructure.
Let’s see if Buenos Aires city can bend the curve further down.

Hi Maria, you can buy it at any moment. If the ticket price is good, you can buy it. If they cancel the flight, then the airline will reschedule your flight without costs. But afterward, you had a ticket at an interesting price. It’s a risk that you take if the flight gets canceled. We don’t know anything yet about the international flights for November.

Currently, there are flights to Miami with Aerolineas Argentinas and American Airlines.
If Turkey if your final destination, then you can take any flight but the connection need to be to Turkey. For example, if your destination is Istanbul, then you can take a flight with Iberia with a stopover in Madrid.
Best way to check is on the airlines website what connections are available.

It’s the passenger’s responsibility to check if they are allowed to enter the country of destination. To be sure, you can check the US of Mexico’s government regulations. Hi Tom 👋, thanks! Watch out because actually anyone can book a ticket for a “special flight” because the ticket sale is public. But only Argentinian citizens/residents can enter the country.
If you don’t have a DNI or Argentinian passport, your entrance will be denied. Of course, the airline will control before you board the plane but in the worst case you land in Buenos Aires and you will not be allowed to enter the country. The borders currently closed until September 20th for all foreigners.

Also, up to today, the government didn’t officially communicate that the regular flights in September will not be possible. The airlines are gambling in the idea that their request for “special” flights will be approved. A reason why the ticket sales of KLM, Iberia, Air France are not online yet. And this a couple of days before September 1st.

I’m living in Europe now and from what I see Argentinians have to quarantine, but they are indeed allowed to fly to Europe.

I appreciate your updates. We currently have longstanding flights booked to Buenos Aires for 30th September, not looking too hopeful at the moment :/
It was supposed to be the first leg of a round the world trip. I have my fingers crossed for the slight chance of us being allowed in. We’d be happy to be tested AND quarantine for 14 days, so our view is that we’d present minimal risk to the Argentine people.
